"I can't read your mind" If we all had a dollar for every time we have heard this line we would all probably be quite well off. Although this statement is technically true, none of us have superpowers so we can't really "read" someone's mind. But, we can do something that is quite close. The face has 43 muscles in it and when those muscles move they can reveal a lot more than you think. Micro-expressions. Micro-expressions are fleeting muscle movements that are caused by suppressed feelings or emotions. When a person tries hide an emotion it is still portrayed in their face. Those 43 muscles can be the cause of your demise. Here is a test to see how talented you are in spotting those micro-expressions.
Did you do well? If not that's O.K. that is why you are here, to learn. Keep in mind that about 85% of people can actually learn to detect these micro expressions. If you did do well don't get too full of yourself either. There is a lot to keep in mind when detecting. One thing to keep in mind is that an emotion detected through a micro-expression can mean anything. In some cases it might mean that someone is lying but in other cases it might just be an innocent emotion. If you detect nervousness during a grilling session, the person could be nervous that they might be falsely accused of something that they did not do, not that they will be caught. You must keep all of this in mind when applying your newly acquired detection skills.
